This is an image-blog following one timid player and her attempts to avoid Creeper hugs, falling into fiery lava death, and being chewed by Zombies.
Success is by no means assured.

Doggy IQ

I think I may have picked up a Simple Dog.
Okay, maybe it's just the wolf AI, but I have the distinct feeling my mutt isn't the sharpest tool in the shed.  One block tall barriers seem to baffle him utterly.

Maybe there's something amazing inside dirt blocks.

He'll happily leap at them... three blocks away, and then stick his head inside the wall.  Back up, repeat.  Wander around.  Wall-bonk again.  Two block deep x one block high barriers seem to work fine.

Why am I concerned with doggy jumping abilities, you ask?  Well, as much as I like my Spider-cinerator, I have the distinct feeling it's going to lead to a quick and fiery reduction of my wolf pack the second I take them outside.  Thus, I have been pondering long and hard about how to make a spider-specific and all other mob-safe, Spider-cinerator.  I think I've hit on a good idea; Spider's special ability as any player finds out sooner or later is to climb walls - thus they can clear a two block "jump" while other mobs can't.  So, if I build my lavatrap up a few blocks, I can avoid toasted doggies.  In theory.

Small problem - I'm all out of lava.

I head down Mining Shaft Alpha to pick up a few buckets, when I hear a sound I've never heard before. *plop plop plop* .... What *is* that?  *plopplop plop*  Peeking around the corner, I see a green square leaping at my face.  Frantically sword flailing, I slay my first slime.  Afraid the only picture I managed was the aftermath.

Lava in hand and nerves on edge, I headed back to the workshop to test out what holds up Lava.  It probably would have been easier and safer to look up this information, but nothing beats original research, right?

In defiance of material science, wooden ladders, signs and hatches all happily levitate molten lava.

I feel unsafe.

It's nice to know that some truisms from the real world carry over to Minecraft.  Like door-to-door sales - they always show up right when you're in the middle of something.  This one was offering free arrow samples, but I wasn't interested.

No, I'm NOT opening my door for you.
