This is an image-blog following one timid player and her attempts to avoid Creeper hugs, falling into fiery lava death, and being chewed by Zombies.
Success is by no means assured.

Digging Straight Down

Normally digging straight down is one of the cardinal "never do this" rules in Minecraft.   Two very good reasons; it often results in falling into a large cave, or a fiery death to lava.  Today though, I was going going to try and find a spot for a slime farm.   Like many players, I've never seen a single slime in some of my worlds, so I was going to have to go to them.  Thanks to this excellent tool I knew that there were some usable chunks below the front shores of my island.  Slimes only spawn far down in the bottom levels of the map though, so it was going to be a long dig.

I realized I'd forgotten about the mushrooms while farming eggs. >_>;

Okay, short detour - get the mushroom populations back under control, THEN start digging.  And yes, I'm going straight down.  No, I'm not suicidal.  Though it's a bit slower, you can dig straight down in safety by hanging off a ladder, like so.

All the heights of Canopy Carnage had resulted in an extremely robust pinkie muscle, so shifting my way to victory down this ladder was child's play.  Along the way, I found a nice little pocket of gold, but more surprisingly, not a single cave.  Not sure if I should be happy or sad about the latter.

I hit bedrock without any lava mishaps, so far.  Now for the task of carving out a spawning room.  Maybe it's time to make some TNT... up until now, I've never even made a block of it, though I have a good amount of gunppowder saved up.   This will either go very well, or very very badly.
