By the time I had returned to my original base in Spider Tree and done some chores (harvest, plant wheat, pluck mushrooms, start new batches of coal in the furnace, collect more sand...) it was getting dark. Hopping into bed, I had no idea I was about to get a most unwelcome visitor.
Despite prodigious amounts of torch spam, a Skeleton decided to drop in while I was trying to catch some Zzz's. No battle in progress shots I'm afraid, I was too busy trying to dance with the undead to smack the screenshot button with any accuracy. While I did manage to slay the intruder, I took a bunch of shots in the process.
*three cooked fish later*
I wasn't going to spend any more nights here, that much was clear. Packing up the supplies I wanted, and the traitorous bed, the trek back to the Birch begins.
On the way, a storm front rolls in, complete with thunder and lightning. A bolt lands uncomfortably close, starting a small fire. The rain soon puts it out, but I think I'll wait for better weather before travelling.
My new bedroom has a much nicer view than the old one - let's hope it's also less prone to nocturnal Skeletal infestation as well.
Speaking of Skeletons... as I was walking back to base for more glass, one fell out of the sky. Literally. Okay, so it probably fell out of the treetop and not the *sky*, but still... my only consolation is that it definitely didn't survive the fall. There must be dark solid blocks at the top of the birch where monsters can spawn.
I poke a few cautious holes into the base of the birch, wondering if I can see any Skeleton drops to purloin from below. While the sky-skelly didn't make it, there are definitely more mundane undead still kickin'.
This might be a good time to avoid the ground level. I don't enjoy arrows to the face.
The glass skywalk finally reaches the other Birch. A set of beady red eyes glare up at me, while some glass defenses are hastily erected. Would this tree hold ore treasures as well? A few swift chops into the bark prove my guess correct. While I would have loved some iron ore, gold and redstone isn't anything to sneeze at with a cave-less map. With any luck I'll incur fewer falls this time around.
